About

March 24th, 2008

SCHIMBA is the Sugar Camp Hollow International Mountain Bicycle Association. Sugar Camp Holow is a small watershed that drains into Horse Creek in southeastern Hardin County, Tennessee. It is at the center of the Horse Creek Tract of the Ross Forests that has been owned by the Ross family since the 1880’s. We have many miles of dirt logging roads, wide trails, and hand built singletract that members enjoy riding and maintaining.

All mountain bikers are welcome to ride, but should contact members for directions and guidance as the trails are not marked. The premier trail is a seven mile loop around Sugar Camp Hollow that passes two waterfalls, many cascades, springs, seeps, streams, and ponds and crosses the streams over ten mountain bike bridges built by the club members.

The Ross Forests are managed for multiple uses under the standards of the American Tree Farm System (http://www.treefarmsystem.org/). It is a working forest for production of wood products including pulpwood and pine and hardwood sawtimber. Hunting rights are leased to nine hunting clubs. Several put-in and take-out facilities are available on five miles of Horse Creek for canoeing and recreational kayaking. Three areas including Sugar Camp Hollow have been included in the Tennessee State Natural Areas Registry Program due to their botanical diversity. • Dear Editors Ross/Orford- Your new blog is very deceptive. It reminds me of the end of The Wizard of Oz when Toto pulls the curtain back. It looks as if someone personally called Bill Gates and had his personal blogmaster craft the SCHIMBA Blog. This is Hardin County not New York City. On a serious note, it is really excellent but I find it humorous the amount of actual real live participants enrolled in SCHIMBA. Sincerely-Richard (Charter Member of SCHIMBA presently retired)
