April 18-20, SCHIMBA paddles and rides in Alabama
April 20th, 2008
The first SCHIMBA out of town expedition of 2008 was this weekend.
Richard, Dennis, Randy, Andrew, Nick, Ian, and John went to the Bankhead National Forest near Moulton, Alabama, Friday afternoon and camped at the Brushy Creek campground. Due to heavy rain Friday night the Sipsey River was full of water so Richard, John, Randy and Nick gave it a try. It is a National Scenic River, and certainly one of the most beautiful in the Eastern US. After the three hour float, we took the 6 mile loop around Brushy Mountain, an excellent trail, but severely damaged by horse traffic.
Richard’ horses watch in amazement as we prepare for the expedition:

Wow. I am jealous! I have had to resort to riding some on the roads due to wet conditions lately. We recently recieved some trail maintenance help from Texas A&M University’s “Big Event”. It is something the school does each year in which the students work for free to better the community. Although most of them were not bikers, they helped us install lots of bridges on a muddy day… Here is the link for some photos http://gallery.bvmba.net/gallery/03-26-08-Big-Event
