June 1 SCHIMBA paddles Horse Creek
June 1st, 2008
Waters from the flood still have the trails too muddy to enjoy riding, but have Horse Creek perfect for kayaking. The flow at the Airport Bridge was 215 cubic feet per second, down from 1800 after the big rain last week, but much more than the usual 50 or 60. It was plenty to float us over most of the logs and gravel bars, giving us a taste of Hardin County whitewater especially at the Rockhouse Rapids and Pickard Falls.
participants: John Ross, Randy Stanfield, Levi Stanfield, Dennis Turnbo, Richard Rogers, Ian Orford.
Distance: 10.3 miles from Wardtown Bridge to the dock at the Ross Cabin.
Paddling time: 3 hours, 3 minutes
stopped time: 39 minutes, 18 seconds
no injuries, but everyone was wet

Hey that looks like fun! We floated the Bufalo while we were there week before last. I went for my first ride since returning to TX last night and crashed pretty badly leaving my left knee injured. I rode all the way back in, but realized (after almost falling getting into my truck) that I stretched or pulled some tendons/ligaments:( When I got home I discovered that any action of bending it more that slightly while applying pressure (like climbing stairs) is impossible. I enjoyed riding with everyone on my visit!!! EC

It was a superb afternoon, my first real kayaking trip! Only went under 7 times. I can’t walk or move my arms, shoulders or hands this morning, but it was superb!
Typically, when you do something with the ‘Schimba’ boys, they throw you in at the deep end, literally!

How many times have I warned you that when Randy and Richard say this is really going to be fun, you had better watch out and be sure your life insurance is up to date.
